SRI LANKA IS READY TO LEARN FROM RUSSIAN EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF STANDARDIZATION AND METROLOGY

On April 21 the Russian-Lankan cooperation in the field of standardization and metrology was launched. The first videoconference between metrology institutes of Rosstandart and the Sri Lanka Institute of Standards (SLSI) took place at the VNIIM base (St. Petersburg).

The working agenda included issues in the field of standardization, product certification, laboratory testing, calibration and training. SLSI is the National Standardization Body and plays an important role in the economy of the Republic. Dr. Siddika Senaratne, Director General of the Institute also spoke about the national metrological system. According to Dr. Senaratne, Sri Lanka is interested in improving measurement technologies in the field of length, mass, force, temperature, develop laboratory medicine, chemical and bioanalytic research.

From the Russian side, the participants of the meeting were welcomed by Ms. Maria Pishchulina, Head of administration and external relations Department of Rosstandart. In their statements, scientists of the Russian metrology institutes VNIIM, UNIIM – a branch of VNIIM, VNIIFTRI, VNIIOFI, VNIIMS presented areas of activity and prospects for further cooperation.

In a result of the meeting, the Sri Lanka Standards Institute will analyze the proposals and formulate specific wishes for further cooperation between the two countries.
