RUSSIAN-KOREAN COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF TECHNICAL REGULATION

MOSCOW, October 7, 2021 – Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology and the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) was signed during a meeting between the Head of Rosstandart Anton Shalaev and KATS Administrator Sang-hoon Lee. Representatives of KATS, central office of Rosstandart and the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Russian Institute of Standardization" also took part in the meeting.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards was established in 1883 as a state analytical and testing laboratory and since 2013 is a part of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea. KATS is a member of international organizations such as ISO, IEC, PASC, etc. One of the agency's initiatives is the annual "Youth Standards Olympiad" aimed at popularizing standards, weights and measures among teenagers.

Cooperation between the national standardization bodies is aimed at the application of standards and measuring instruments in order to develop and strengthen economic cooperation and to eliminate technical barriers to trade between two countries.

The memorandum signed by the parties involve harmonization of standards for mutually supplied products, coordination of position while developing international standards, exchange of experience on the development of national standards, as well as exchanging information in the field of technical regulation and holding of joint conferences, seminars and trainings. Among the priority areas of cooperation are standardization in such industries as aircraft construction, shipbuilding, information technology, artificial intelligence and digital manufacturing.

Parties noted high potential of trade and economic cooperation development and discussed promising issues of cooperation in the field of standardization and metrology during the meeting.
