Results of the working group meeting on machine-readable ISO standards

SWITZERLAND, November 5, 2019 – from October 30 to November 1, 2019 in Geneva at the headquarters of the International organization for standardization (ISO) held the final meeting of the Strategic Advisory group on machine readable standards (ISO Strategic Advisory Group on Machine Readable standards) chaired by Deputy Head of Rosstandart Anton Shalaev.

Recall that the decision to establish a working group and appoint a chairman was made in September 2019 within ISO week. The tasks of the group include:

- development of a unified conceptual framework in the field of machine-readable standards; 

- development of a roadmap for the establishment and development of the International organization for standardization of machine-readable standards;

- identification of areas and directions of priority for the development of international standards in machine-readable format;

- development of recommendations for the implementation of machine-readable standards for technical committees on standardization;

- inclusion of activities for the development of standardization in machine-readable format in the ISO Strategic development plan.

The meeting was attended by representatives of national standardization bodies of Great Britain, Germany, Canada, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, USA, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Japan, as Well as the Central Secretariat of ISO.

The meeting included a lecture of the working group members for the staff of the International Standardization Organization about the existing experience and prospects for further use of machine-readable documents in international and regional standardization. Lecturers were Kenneth Swope (American national standards Institute), Ronald Tse (Standardization Council of Canada), Helge Olsen (national standardization body of Norway) and Anton Shalaev.

Representatives of the international technical Committee ISO/TC 68 "Financial services" also spoke about their experience with the new type of documents during the meeting, and in general, a separate section was devoted to the use of machine-readable documents for financial management.

The final report of the Strategic Advisory group will be presented at the end of 2019.
