THE IEC WHITE PAPER "SECURITY IN THE FUTURE" IS AVAILABLE IN RUSSIAN

cover
Publication date:

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) publishes White Papers on a permanent, usually annual basis, which are analytical materials on global problems in the field of electrical engineering. The White Papers are prepared by one of the highest management bodies of the IEC – the Market Strategy Board, which includes representatives of the world's largest corporations, national standardization bodies and public associations.

The new IEC White Paper "Safety in the Future" has also been published in Russian, as one of the official languages of the IEC, for the first time in a long period. The Russian-language text was prepared by Rosstandart, representing the Russian Federation in the IEC, together with the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Russian Standardization Institute».

In recent years, standardization at the international, regional and national levels has moved to a new stage, facing new challenges. More and more devices are being integrated into the processes of production automation and logistics. The Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, modern robotic tools and especially artificial intelligence (AI) are engaged in transforming the communication between electrical systems and people.

"Can machines become so super intelligent that a person will eventually lose control over them? When introducing new technologies, there are always unforeseen consequences for people. Therefore, today it is more important than ever before to realize how much human security should be put at the center of the new "man-machine" relationship. This will require a fundamentally different, holistic approach to security when developing standards," the White Paper notes.

The IEC publication "Safety in the Future" is in free access on the official IEC website at the link https://www.iec.ch/basecamp/safety-future.

The issues of approaches to standardization for ensuring the security of digital technologies will be discussed at the IEC General Meeting, which will be held in October 2021, and will be attended by a delegation of the Russian Federation
led by the Head of Rosstandart Anton Shalaev.
